National MS Society - Challenge Walk: The Scrap Dog Team

How can you help?

Thank you.

Our 2008 goal of $25,000 was exceeded because of your generousity. Our 2009 Goal is $25,000 again. Are you able to help? Our 2009 goal will be updated in an attached comment as the year progresses.

Today, there is no cure for multiple sclerosis, and with diagnosis occurring most frequently between the ages of 20 and 50, many individuals face a lifetime filled with unpredictability.

This event is a challenge - and an opportunity - for everyone involved, participants and donors alike. With commitment to this cause, we can all be part of a historic undertaking. The funds raised from the MS Challenge Walk will not only support research to help create a world free of multiple sclerosis, but also provide programs which address the needs of hundreds of thousands of people living with MS right now. Because we choose to walk for those who sometimes can't. Because we choose to donate to the MS Challenge Walk, we are getting ever closer to the hour when no one will have to hear the words, "You have MS."

Rock out with the Scrap Dogs was a Huge Success!

Five local bands come together to perform at Jimmy's Saloon while a few hundred people sat back and enjoyed the music all while supporting a good cause, MS Society of New England and the Scrap Dogs - a group of men and women that has come together to raise awareness and funds for MS.

The Scrap Dogs also sold raffle rickets and pizza slices. The raffle prizes were gift certificates made by local business that included Flint Audio Video, Portobellos Jewelers, Big Mama's Music, Brick Alley Pub, Barking Crab, Island Cinemas, Island Surf and Skate, West Main Pizza and a Celtics framed collectible from Sports Memorabalia, 6 lobsters from Aquidneck Lobster, a gift basket from Beach House Newport. Pizza was provided by West Main Pizza and Pizza Hollywood.

First up on line up was Bloody Knuckles who entertained a full house of adults and children alike. Big Cat Blues followed next with a great set of bluesy music. US went next playing covers that everyone enjoyed. After a quick drum change, Braman's Lane played a mix of orginal music and covers followed by the new heavy metal band Dawn of the Demon.

About fifteen members of the Viking Riders, a local group of motorcycle riders that is a non profit organization dedicated to helping those in need, presented the Scrap Dogs with a donation of $150.00 and also stayed and enjoyed the music.

The event was a huge success. The house was packed with local newport residents, old friends and lots of new ones and the amount raised for this charity by those people is greatly appreciated by the Scrap Dogs and especially by the MS Society New England Chapter.
