National MS Society - Challenge Walk: The Scrap Dog Team

How can you help?

Thank you.

Our 2008 goal of $25,000 was exceeded because of your generousity. Our 2009 Goal is $25,000 again. Are you able to help? Our 2009 goal will be updated in an attached comment as the year progresses.

Today, there is no cure for multiple sclerosis, and with diagnosis occurring most frequently between the ages of 20 and 50, many individuals face a lifetime filled with unpredictability.

This event is a challenge - and an opportunity - for everyone involved, participants and donors alike. With commitment to this cause, we can all be part of a historic undertaking. The funds raised from the MS Challenge Walk will not only support research to help create a world free of multiple sclerosis, but also provide programs which address the needs of hundreds of thousands of people living with MS right now. Because we choose to walk for those who sometimes can't. Because we choose to donate to the MS Challenge Walk, we are getting ever closer to the hour when no one will have to hear the words, "You have MS."

Watch this blog throughout the year for local fundraising events.

The Scrap Dogs Team Meeting will be held on Monday, September 29 from 6:30 PM to 7:45 PM at the Portsmouth Free Library, Portsmouth, RI (behind the BankNewport, East Main Road and Turnpike Avenue Split).

On the Agenda:

YMCA memberships - walkers sign up

The Newport County YMCA has agreed to support our team by providing us with free three month training memberships for all the team walkers. In return to their support we have agreed to included them in any advertising or on printed materials. This is an example of how local community individuals and businesses can help us with our fundraising efforts without actaully making a monetary donation. YMCA will help us get fit and we will help them become even more of household name!

Biggest Loser Contest - weight in and fees

This contest is open to all team members, their family and friends. The entrance fee will be a $20.00 donation to MS Society. These entrance fees will be collected to form the winning pot. The biggest loser or winner of the contest will receive a gift certificate to a local restaurant (to be determined). If the biggest loser is a Scrap Dog Team member they will also receive the winning pot which will be applied toward fundraising efforts.

Upcoming Fundraiser - The Linen Shop, Newport, RI - Wine Tasting

This event is still in the works.

Calling in a Fundraising event Coordinator!

Let me start by saying we need to look further into fundraising programs at Walmart and Shaws prior to any decisions but I think this might be an opportunity to be an event coordinator even though you are not near.

If these corporations would allow one of our team members to collect receipts from the whole team and then turn them into their local location would someone be interested in organizing that for us? We can collect the receipts at the meetings and then mail them off to you to organize and submit. You would collect the donations and apply them to your fundraising goals.

Let me know if you are interested and I will look (with linda's help) further into it.

Scrap Dog's Biggest Loser Contest - started September 20, 2008
We have approximately 11 members of team, family and friends that will be taking part in the contest.
Each contestant will be weighing themselves at home and email their weights to Carol Patin at carol.patin@langnaturals.com on Tuesday mornings each week. Carol is going to track the percentage of weight lost by each person. The person with the highest percentage wins! Anyone interested in joining the biggest loser please contact Carol by Thursday morning with your weights. She will email a list out weekly to each contestant with percentages lost. Lets all stay honest, motivated and lose the weight. The winner will receive a gift certificate to a local restaurant which will be determined shortly. The contest will end December 9th. Please send your $20.00 entry fee to Carol. Carol and the winning scrap dog team member will split the entry fees and apply it toward their fundraising efforts.
